A case report of bloody pancreatitis
INTRODUCTION Haemobilia is an uncommon entity even though its frequency has increased with hepato-biliary instrumentation and procedures. It can be associated with obstructive jaundice and pancreatitis (Green et al., 2001) [1]. Haemobilia following cholecystectomy has frequently been reported in association with hepatic artery pseudo-aneurysm (Curet et al., 1981; Ribeiro et al., 1998) [2,3]. Th...
متن کاملEmergency cholecystectomy and hepatic arterial repair in a patient presenting with haemobilia and massive gastrointestinal haemorrhage due to a spontaneous cystic artery gallbladder fistula masquerading as a pseudoaneurysm
BACKGROUND Haemobilia usually occurs secondary to accidental or iatrogenic hepatobiliary trauma. It can occasionally present with cataclysmal upper gastrointestinal haemorrhage posing as a life threatening emergency. Haemobilia can very rarely be a complication of acute cholecystitis. Here we report a case of haemobilia manifesting as massive gastrointestinal haemorrhage in a patient without an...
متن کاملHepatic artery aneurysm following cholecystectomy.
A rare case is reported of an hepatic artery aneurysm developing 5 months after cholecystectomy. This presented as massive haemobilia as a result of the aneurysm communicating with the cystic duct stump. The diagnosis was delayed owing to the complicating features of Waldenström's macroglobulinaemia and jejunal diverticulosis.
متن کاملAn unusual case of severe haematemesis: a cautionary tale
We present a case of pancreatitis with secondary pseudoaneurysm formation in a branch of the hepatic artery, which fistulated into the common bile duct following endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography. This aneurysm manifested itself clinically with recurrent haematemesis, and was treated by embolisation of the anterior and posterior branches of the right hepatic artery.

Hepatic artery aneurysms are a rare cause of upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage and may represent significant problems in both diagnosis and management. We report a 70 year old patient with gastrointestinal bleeding from a fistula between a 7 cm hepatic artery aneurysm and the duodenum. He underwent successful surgical management with endoaneurysmorrhaphy and duodenal wall repair.
